A car seat footmuff is a baby travel essential for winter.
They work like a little baby sleeping bag for the carseat and they allow you to keep your baby warm while in the car, when moving them from car to home/shop/creche and they also work as stroller footmuffs whenever you are using the car seat as part of your travel system.
They are better than a blanket under several points of view. In this article, you will find we love car seat footmuffs for babies and some of our favorite models.
Car seat footmuff, cozytoes, car seat bunting or cover? As I started looking for winter covers for my babies while in the car seat, I came across different definitions. Footmuff, cozytoes and bunting are all pretty straightforward but car seat cover is a little less so as sometimes it indicates a protective layer for the seat, not a cover for baby! In this post, even when the term ‘cover’ is used, we mean car seat sleeping bags for baby.

Why use a car seat footmuff
There are several reasons that make me advocate the use of a car seat cover for winter.
- They don’t slip away, meaning you can drive without worrying constantly about the blanket falling to the floor of the car
- The wrap your baby in a cozy cocoon, keeping them usually warmer than if you are using just a top layer
- The are purpose built to be keep baby safe in their carseat, usually with openings on the back that allow proper use of the car seat harness.
- Good ones unzip to adjust the level of comfort when in and out of shops. This is one of the things I love the most about them and why I prefer them over snowsuits.
If you have your baby in a snowsuits, you will have to fully undress them when you enter a shop and this can be fiddly, especially if you want to free their little arms.
If you have a car seat footmuff, you can simply unzip and, in come cases, even remove the cover entirely, making the whole manoeuvre a lot easy, you may even do it without waking your sleeping baby!
- They look good! Or at least some of the do, which is always an extra plus! OK, this last reason is a little indulgent maybe, but babies are so sweet when they are snug as a bug in their carseat, I cannot pretend this didn’t have any weight in my decision to by a cozytoes!

This car seat foomuff has elastic edges that make it fit snugly around the car seat and a long zip that can be fully opened and rolled to the side for easy access and whenever you need more air to come in, for instance when entering the mall.
At the front, there is a soft collar with buttons that you can open and secure to adjust airflow. Some specs:

This is a water repellent car seat footmuff for babies that can be used both on car seats and strollers and has two zippers at the bottom that allow it to extend and grow wit your baby.
The back is removable to that your child can seat directly on the the car sat as intended and the harness can close safely.

This car seat footmuff used an elasticated bottom to fit around the seat and is compatible with standard size strollers too.
A long zipper at the front allows easy access and can be fully removed as well as giving the option of regulating temperature folding the front flap.

The bag is made of faux shearling on the inside and soft Thermaplush on the outside and it machine washable.
The back is designed to be removes so you can easily use the car seat harness and the front zips fully open and you can even remove it when entering warmer spaces.
The only thing you want want to consider is that this model doesn’t have a hood.
