The best places to stay in and near Monument Valley, USA: Monument Valley hotels and accommodation guide.
The biggest challenge I found, when planning our visit to Monument Valley, was deciding where to stay.
When searching the web for good lodging options two things appeared clear: Monument Valley hotels are few and far between and they book up very quickly, so you need to act fast.
I found this piece of advice on travel forums about the area and indeed it seemed to be confirmed by my own web findings.
I wasn’t able to find any Monument Valley hotel that I could book with a free cancellation option, any that had more than a couple of rooms left (this was a good few months before our summer trip) and I also very quickly realized there simply were not many Monument Valley hotels at all.
We were lucky to snatch a great room at Goulding’s lodge but the stress of planning this night lead me to write this post.
This is my overview of the best places to stay in Monument Valley and the surrounding area, Monument Valley hotels and other hotels you can stay in when visiting Monument Valley but that are farther afield.

Monument Valley hotels
There are only two hotels in Monument Valley ‘proper’: the View hotel, which is inside the Monument Valley Navajo tribal park and Goulding’s Lodge, which is immediately outside the park.
The View Hotel
The view hotel is inside Monument Valley Navajo tribal park and is the first building you see as you enter the area.
The hotel takes its name from the fact that it is perched in the perfect position to catch the view of Monument Valley just below.
If you stay here, you do not need to do anything to see the peaks except for looking out of your window!
It is a stellar location and the view is indeed spectacular: it expands in front of you day and night and the fact that you don’t need to take the car, once at the hotel, to enjoy it, is a definite plus.
Rooms at The View Hotel Monument Valley
In terms of facilities, The View hotel at Monument Valley is a 3 star hotel and offers standard guest rooms, special stargazing rooms (on the 3rd floor) and premium cabins.
The rooms all offer flat screen TV, refrigerator, coffee/tea maker and microwave, air conditioning / heat and a balcony. The stargazing view, called StarView rooms are at the top floor and they have been designed specifically to facilitate stargazing, something really special here in Monument Valley considering the darkness you get and the amazing silhouettes of the buttes against the star lit sky!
Premium cabins at The View Hotel
Larger families and groups can opt for the nice premium cabins the hotel has on their grounds.
They host up to 6 guests and they all have porches with view over the valley, sometimes even better than the one you get from the hotel itself! Each cabin has a full restroom and shower plus refrigerator and microwave.
The View hotel at Monument Valley Campground
The View hotel also offer the option to camp, either in their RV spaces or on their wilderness camping sites.
Their RV sites are dry and have no hook ups. . The wilderness camping sites are on the cliff side of the park and have a restroom / shower facility.
A convenience store is in the registration office and has camping supplies, food, drinks and ice
The hotel has an onsite restaurant, ATM machine and laundry facilities are nearby. The View hotel at Monument Valley operates a strict no smoking policy and pets are not allowed (except service animals).
Families are welcome and rooms on the first floor have larger balconies designed to accommodate larger parties.
The hotels does not provide a pool and this is by design: as their website states, this area sees families without access to water and not having a pool for guests is a decision made as an act of respect to local living conditions.
A computer with Internet access and free WiFi is in the lobby. WiFi only reaches some of the rooms.
Please note that the hotels is inside the Tribal Park and as such you need to pay the park entrance fee, currently 5$, to access it.

If you prefer camping, Golding’s also offers space for RV and tents.
They have full RV hook up sites and the Goulding’s gas station sells propane.
