What to look for when picking the best baby sun tent
Before we compiled this list of the best baby sun tents, we looked into the main specs a baby beach tent needed to have to be up for the job.
We found that the main things to look for when picking a baby sun tent are:
The whole point of a good sun tent for baby it to shelter them from the most aggressive natural elements of the beach environment and this include the sun and the heat.
A sun tent without ventilation is not only not ideal but can be properly dangerous and will create a micro climate that even even hotter than that of the beach!
When picking one, make sure it has good ventilation in the form of fully open sides or mesh windows that can help air in and allow it to circulate properly.
This is even more important if you have you baby sleeping in the sun tent since you may turn your attention away for longer and not realise how hot it gets.
With UV protection
Creating shade is not enough to protect your baby from the sun. Rays can easily pass though fabric and tent materials and cause skin burns.
This can be particularly dangerous with a baby sun tent as you may be lulled in a false sense of security that they are out of the sun.
A tent with UV protection and sun screen even in the shade is a must for baby beach safety.
A base layer
We have included in this list some sun tents that do not have a bottom sheet however, we found that out babies didn’t like sitting on sand so if your baby are like ours of you don’t don’t yet, then having a floor goes a long way to keep them happy!
Easy to carry and assembly
Maybe an obvious point but the best baby sun tents are easy to carry, assemble and fold.
You don’t want to have to spend ages to put them up at the start and you want even less to have to spend hours folding them back when leaving the beach, which most likely will involve a tired baby, a lot of sandy items and more stuff to carry than when you arrived (hello wet bags and trash bags!).
When possible, we recommend going for popup tents so you don’t have to fiddle with it.
Privacy for baby changing and nap time
How much privacy a baby beach tent need to offer depend largely on what type of use you want to make of it.
if you only want the baby tent to operate as a shelter or mini pool, then you really do not need it to close.
On the other hand, if you want to use it to get changed yourself or to change more than one child at a time, maybe a baby and a toddler, then you want some sort of curtain at the front or even a zip door.
I hope you enjoyed these top pick of sun tents for babies at it helped you find one that works for you!
